
LPGA Tour member Wendy Ward is the 2001 recipient of the William and Mousie Powell Award by the members of the Tournament Division of the LPGA. The award recognizes an LPGA player who best exemplifies the LPGA's spirit, ideals and values.
Ward qualified for the tour on her first attempt after finishing in third place at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament. Since joining the Tour she has scored 3 victories at the 2001 Wendy's Championship for Children, 1998 Cup Noodles Hawaiian Ladies Open and the Fieldcrest Canon Classic.
Ward had a very successful amateur career. She was the 1992 Texas State Women's champion and the 1994 World Team Amateur champion and medallist. She was the 1994 United States Women's Amateur champion and a member of the 1994 United States Curtis Cup Team. She was the 1994-95 College Player Of the Year. Ward played collegiate golf at Arizona State University where her team was a three-time National champion (1993-95). Also as an amateur, Ward competed in the 1995 LPGA Standard Register PING where she played with Laura Davies and Beth Daniel in the final pairing on Sunday and finished in third place.
