Tom claimed victory at the 2000 PGA Tour Kemper Insurance Open, to go along with his 1998 win at Buy.com Tour Nike Upstate Classic and 1995 Nike Knoxville Open. In 2000, he was runner-up Touchstone Energy Tucson Classic and placed 4th in the Michelob Championship and 7th in the Fed-Ex St. Jude Classic. In 1999, he was the low finisher among the 46 first-time participants at U.S. Open, tying for 23rd.
Before turning pro, Tom was the winner of 1990 North & South Amateur, and runner-up in the1992 U.S. Amateur.
Tom has been a top-15 money winner twice on the BUY.COM Tour, and ranked 35th in earnings with $1,263,585 in 2000.

In addition to golf, Tom has enjoyed winning in other sports. As captain of his high school hockey team, he led them to a state championship. Hockey remains an interest, along with reading and family time.
