
Steve Elkington's first top-10 finish on the money list came in 1995, when he won twice and finished second twice. He opened the 1995 year with his second Mercedes Championships title and birdied the second playoff hole to defeat Bruce Lietzke. He sank a 25-foot putt on first extra hole to win his first major title, and finished the year by winning Vardon Trophy with a 69.62 scoring average.
In 1998, he captured his ninth TOUR title and second Buick Challenge trophy in a playoff over Fred Funk. Steve reached the top-10 again in 1997 thanks to two more victories. He trailed David Duval by two strokes entering final round of Doral-Ryder Open before earning two-stroke victory with closing 69, and three weeks later was dominant at THE PLAYERS Championship. He shot 66-69-68-69--272 to lead wire-to-wire and win by a PLAYERS Championship-record seven strokes over Scott Hoch. Steve joined Jack Nicklaus and Fred Couples as only two-time winners at TPC at Sawgrass.
Steve's first TOUR victory came at 1990 Kmart Greater Greensboro Open, where final-round 66 brought him from seven strokes back. He outdueled Fuzzy Zoeller to win 1991 PLAYERS Championship. Steve won the 1992 Infiniti Tournament of Champions in playoff over Brad Faxon, one of six top-three finishes that year, and made all 23 cuts in 1993.

Steve enjoys caricature drawing, fishing, hunting, gardening, but became a professional golfer in 1985.
