
Phil Blackmar's PGA Tour wins include 1985 Canon Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open, 1988 Provident Classic, and 1997 Shell Houston Open. All three of these PGA Tour victories have come in playoffs. He defeated Dan Pohl and Jodie Mudd with a birdie on the first extra hole of 1985 Canon Sammy Davis, Jr.-Greater Hartford Open for his first tour win. In 1988, he sank a long birdie putt on the first extra hole to defeat Payne Stewart at Provident Classic. He defeated Kevin Sutherland with a birdie on first extra hole in winning 1997 Shell Houston Open.
Phil's best finish on the 2001 PGA Tour was a tie for 16th at the Shell Houston Open. In 2001, he had entered 2 tournaments, the Shell Houston Open and Canon Greater Hartford Open, and ended 1st in money.
He has ranked in the top-100 on the money list 10 times since his first full season on tour in 1985, when he was named PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year by Golf Digest.
In addition to playing, he serves as golf commentator for ABC Sports and is a featured teacher at Jim Flick's Premier Golf School.
Phil towers over the other players, standing at 6' 7". Golf runs in the family his father was national left-handed champion in 1965.
Born in California, Phil attended the University of Texas, and continues to make Texas his home. When not golfing, this family man enjoys spending time fishing.
