Biographical Information

LPGA Tour member Kris Tschetter is the recipient of the 2001 Heather Farr Player Award. Tschetter was chosen for her exemplary attitude on and off the golf course, her love of and dedication to the game and her perseverance in returning to a high level of competition following a career-threatening hip injury.

Kris Tschetter won the 1983 AJGA Tournament of Champions and was a four-time winner of the South Dakota State Women's Amateur Championship (1983-1986). In 1985, she qualified for the U.S. Women's Open and the following year was a quarter-finalist in the Trans-National.

Tschetter played college golf at Texas Christian University where she was a three-time member of the All-Southwest Conference team. In 1997 she twice finished second: the Nabisco Dinah Shore and the State Farm Rail Classic after losing to Cindy Figg-Currier in a sudden-death playoff. In 1996 Tschetter's season-best finish was a solo second place at the U.S. Women's Open where she finished with rounds of 68-66. Tschetter crossed the $1 million milestone in career earnings in 1995.

Kris' top finish in 2000 was a tie for ninth at the Longs Drugs Challenge. She crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings with her 11th-place paycheck at the Los Angeles Women's Championship. She carded a season-low 67 during the first round of the Cup Noodles Hawaiian Ladies Open (T17) and the final round of the Kathy Ireland Greens.com LPGA Classic (T12). Hip surgery in June 2000 ended her season, but she returned to competition in 2001 at the LPGA Takefuji Classic where she tied for 44th.

In 2001, Kris placed third at the Sybase Big Apple Classic Presented by GOLF Magazine. She tied for fifth at the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic Presented by ALLTEL, for sixth at the Asahi Ryokuken International Championship at Mount Vintage, for seventh at the Michelob Light Classic, and tied for ninth at the Electrolux USA Championship hosted by Vince Gill and Amy Grant. She also tied her career-low score of 63 during the first round of the Standard Register PING.
