
Ewa was a fourteen-year-old in Sweden when she decided to take up the game of pool. Laurance had talent, so much that in 1981, the seventeen-year-old won the European Championship in Bern, Switzerland. Laurance was asked to represent Europe at the world championship later that same year. So impressed was the young player with the United States that it became the home of this champion.
As of 1995, Laurance had won fourteen pool championships, both here and abroad. With fame in the 90's comes television appearances, and Laurance's include Letterman and Regis and Kathie Lee. Then, there is also that No Nonsense Pantyhose commercial.
Ewa Mataya Laurance is a two-time Player of the Year, a recipient of the "WPBA Sportsperson of the Year" award, "BBIA Industry Service Award," and has served as the President of the The Women's Professional Billiard Association. She writes a monthly column for Pool & Billiard Magazine, is the author of two books, "The Ewa Mataya Pool Guide" and "The Complete Idiots Guide to Pool and Billiards". Besides playing on the WPBA Tour, Ewa spends a great deal of the year performing at trickshot exhibitions, and charity events across the U.S. and around the world.
