THE BALMORAL

| Description: |
A member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World Chain, The Balmoral is our pick for top honors among all of the terrific properties in Scotland's capital. Much like the Old Course Hotel is more luxurious, although not necessarily a better choice for certain groups, than Rusacks in St. Andrews, we feel that The Balmoral and the Macdonald Holyrood offer complimentary accommodations in Edinburgh. The bottom line is that The Balmoral is indeed one of those hotels where everything seems to be perfect, so the choice ultimately comes down to price. |
| Golf Course Name: |
Gullane #1 |
| Description: |
Located on the bluffs adjacent to the lovely village of Gullane on a deserted stretch of coast east of Edinburgh, Gullane #1 often serves as a qualifying course for the British Open. The eighteenth hole brings golfers home into the middle of the village, much like at St. Andrews or North Berwick. Although many who play Gullane will stay in Edinburgh and make the quick trip (19 miles) east, we highly recommend staying at the Golf Inn or Greywalls and soaking up the experience of a town that literally revolves around the game of golf. Two other courses (#2 and #3) may also be played by guests, although #1 is clearly the best of the three. |

| Golf Course Name: |
North Berwick (West Links) |
| Description: |
The West Links at North Berwick possess two of the most copied holes in all of golf architecture (the #14 Perfection and the #15 Redan). The changes in elevation one encounters are matched only by Turnberry and Kingsbarns in all of Scotland. Consistently ranked among the top 100 courses in the world, North Berwick and Gullane combined make an excellent swing through the area east of Edinburgh. North Berwick, like Royal Dornoch to the north, is one of those courses where you earn certain "bragging rights" for making the effort to play a layout many others read about, but never see in person. |

MACDONALD HOLYROOD
| Description: |
A 157 room modern hotel situated adjacent to the Royal Mile on Holyrood Road, the Macdonald Holyrood provides the perfect setting for a couple of days spent exploring one of the greatest cities in the world. We recommend this property, and the five-star Balmoral, for golfers traveling with non-golfers. Edinburgh is a cosmopolitan city, meaning a non-golfer can be entertained for days while the golfer travels 19 miles east to Gullane and North Berwick (keep in mind we can always suggest other courses locally, such as Dalmahoy). |

MARINE HOTEL
| Description: |
Legends such as Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson and Faldo call the Marine Hotel home when traveling to East Lothian, which is enough for us to recommend this hotel to our clients. The Marine Hotel sits atop the West Links at North Berwick, and boasts 83 rooms, a pool and a sauna, tennis courts, and of course a terrific restaurant and authentic Scottish pub. Although we typically have to convince a client to make the trip to North Berwick as opposed to St. Andrews, they always return with praise for this hidden gem. |

GOLF INN
| Description: |
A charming 14 bedroom guest house in the middle of Gullane, the Golf Inn is within 25 minutes of seven golf courses, including the championship course at Gullane #1 (the first tee is a short walk away). The Golf Inn Restaurant boasts award-winning chef Neil Wright of Edinburgh, and the lounge claims to have an "inexhaustible" selection of single malt whiskies. Combine good food and a well-stocked bar with comfortable rooms, and you have found one of our favorite inns in Scotland. |
