
David Gossett turned pro in 2000, and claimed a PGA Tour victory in 2001 at the John Deere Classic. As an amateur he won five tournaments: 1999 U.S. Amateur and Big 12 Championship, and 1998 Red River Classic, Tucker Invitational, Golf Digest Collegiate Invitational.
He did well on the BUY.COM Tour in 2001, tying for second in the Wichita Open, tying for 5th in the Arkansas Classic, coming in 5th in the Virginia Beach Open, tying for 9th in the Dayton Open and tying for 12th in the Carolina Classic. His 2001 PGA Tour scores include the win at the John Deere Classic, tying for 5th in the Air Canada Championship, 23rd in the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, 24th in the Texas Open at LaCantera, and 28th in the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
In 1999, David was U.S. Amateur Champion, NCAA Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Player of the Year, and he set the Big 12 Championship scoring record with a 1-under-par 209. In 2000, he was the Masters Low Amateur. On the 2000 PGA TOUR Qualifying, he fired a 13-under-par 59, which was the lowest in PGA Tour finals history, and included his first hole-in-one in competition. He was runner-up on the 2001 Canon Challenge (Australasia Tour) and 1998 Tennessee Men's Amateur. In 1999, when he was 20, he was the youngest member of the Walker Cup Team.
