From college football for Clemson to the "glory years" of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, Charlie Waters became the consummate team player. A mainstay for the Dallas franchise, Charlie never experienced a losing season during his years on the "Doomsday Defense" (1970-82).
Playing strong safety, Charlie participated in 3 Super Bowls (among them Super Bowl XII when the Cowboys crushed the Broncos), won 2 World Championships and was nominated for the 2001 class for the Pro Football HALL OF FAME.
This legendary player whose courage and knowledge of the game earned the respect of both opponents and teammates alike, also won the hearts of the fans. Football die-hards twice voted him their Favorite Cowboy as well as to the Dallas Morning News' All-time Cowboys Team. In addition to Charlie's rare NFL distinction of blocking 4 punts in 2 successive games, other honors he holds include:
- XNFL All-Rookie Team
- Sports Illustrated Hero Award
- Summerall/Madden All-/Cowboys Team
- Dallas Cowboys Silver Anniversary Team
- NFL Alumni Association's Legend Award
- South Carolina Clemson University Hall of Fame
Following his retirement as a player, Charlie did a stint as an analyst for CBS Sports and later re-entered the NFL as a coach. He advanced to Defensive Coordinator and under his tutelage, led the Broncos to the playoffs four times.
As co-author of Tales of the Dallas Cowboys, Charlie and former teammate, Cliff Harris share some of the excitement of those greatest years in the NFL.
Presently employed in the private business sector with the Energy Transfer Group, Charlie works with former teammate and longtime partner, Cliff Harris, in the new world of electricity marketing. He is active in the fellowship of Christian Athletes and supports various community and charitable activities.
