
After attending the University of Florida, Bob turned pro in 1967 and joined the Tour in 1968. His career is among the game's best as 31st on the All-time Money Winner List. His 5 PGA victories include 1968 Philadelphia Golf Classic, Thunderbird Classic, 1970 Greater Hartford Open Invitational, 1975 Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic, and the 1986 Canadian Open.
His 11 Senior Tour victories include the 1993 Bruno's Memorial Classic, GTE North Classic, 1994 Raley's Senior Gold Rush, Hyatt Regency Maui Kaanapali Classic, 1995 The IntelliNet Challenge, PaineWebber Invitational, Nationwide Championship, VFW Senior Championship, 1996 Royal CaribbeanClassic, Cadillac NFL Golf Classic and the 1997 Toshiba Senior Classic.
Bob has won over $6 million in his career, thanks in part to 11 SENIOR PGA TOUR and five PGA TOUR victories Since joining the SENIOR TOUR on a full-time basis in 1993, he has been one of the leading money-winners with more than $4 million in earnings. Had perhaps his finest year in golf in 1995 when he claimed four titles, tying Jim Colbert for the most victories by any senior player that year. Finished among the top three in more than one-third of his starts and placed in the top 10 more than two-thirds of the time. Bob was the only three-time Player of the Month on the SENIOR TOUR (May/June/August) in 1995.
Initially coaxed out of the ESPN broadcast booth by Lee Trevino, who advised him to play the SENIOR TOUR on a full-time basis. Bob has a history of severe arthritis, which he overcame to continue his golf career. Recipient of the 1996 Ben Hogan Award from the Golf Writers Association of America for his comeback from arthritis. He serves as national spokesman for the Hook-A-Kid On Golf program and vice chairman of the SENIOR TOUR Player Advisory Council for 1998. Bob was elected to the SENIOR PGA TOUR Division Board for 1999-2000. Bob returned to the broadcast booth in 2000, joining NBC for a number of events.
In 2001, his best finish on the SENIOR PGA TOUR was T8th at the SBC Championship. He ranks T62nd in Birdie Average on the SENIOR PGA TOUR. 2000 was the best season Bob had since 1997, returning to the top 31 on the final money list after a one-year hiatus (30th) with $636,757.
