Billy Mayfair began winning golf tournaments even before turning professional in 1988. He holds the title for 1987 U.S. Amateur Champion and NCAA Player of the year, along with 1986 U.S. Public Links winner.
As a professional golfer, Billy set the PGA Tour record for the lowest 9 hole score, having shot 9 under par 36 for 9 holes at the 2001 Buick Open. He also led the tour's sand saves in 1995. His PGA Tour victories are the 1993 Greater Milwaukee Open, 1995 Motorola Western Open and Tour Championship, and in 1998, he won the Buick Open and Nissan Open.
Billy has spent other happy times on the greens, in particular his wedding. He figures it's only natural, considering they'll be spending the rest of their lives on golf courses, both as players and designing golf courses, including The Golf Club of Virginia, in Roanoke scheduled to open in the spring of 2002.
